2.1. Publication Decisions

The editors of AS-SHUFFAH: Islam and Digital Humanities Review are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be accepted for publication. Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript's originality, scholarly quality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, and reviewers' recommendations.

Editors must also consider applicable legal requirements concerning copyright infringement, plagiarism, defamation, and other relevant matters. Where necessary, editors may consult members of the editorial board or qualified reviewers before making a final decision.

2.2. Plagiarism Screening

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original and free from plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and other forms of academic misconduct. Submitted manuscripts may be screened using appropriate similarity-detection tools before publication.

The editorial team evaluates similarity reports to identify potential instances of plagiarism, inappropriate paraphrasing, and unattributed use of other works. Where concerns arise, the journal may request clarification or revisions, reject the manuscript, or take other appropriate actions in accordance with publication ethics principles.

2.3. Fair Play

Editors evaluate manuscripts based on their intellectual merit, originality, academic quality, and relevance to the journal's scope, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political views.

Editorial decisions must be made fairly, objectively, and consistently.

2.4. Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related communications. Information about a manuscript may only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, the publisher, or other authorized parties when necessary for the publication process.

Unpublished manuscripts and confidential information must not be disclosed or used for purposes unrelated to editorial evaluation without appropriate authorization.

2.5. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished materials or information disclosed in submitted manuscripts for their own research or personal advantage without the author's explicit written consent.

Editors must disclose potential conflicts of interest and, where necessary, withdraw from handling manuscripts in which their impartiality may be compromised.

3. Duties of Reviewers

3.1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer reviewers assist editors in making informed editorial decisions and help authors improve the quality, clarity, and scholarly contribution of their manuscripts through constructive feedback.

3.2. Promptness

Reviewers who feel unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or are unable to complete the review within the requested timeframe must promptly notify the editor and decline the invitation or request an appropriate extension.

3.3. Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, reproduce, or discuss manuscripts with unauthorized individuals without the editor's permission.

3.4. Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must be conducted objectively, professionally, and constructively. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear, evidence-based assessments supported by relevant scholarly arguments.

3.5. Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been appropriately cited. Claims that an observation, argument, or finding has previously been reported should be supported by appropriate references. Reviewers must also inform the editor of substantial similarities or overlaps between the manuscript under review and other publications of which they are aware.

3.6. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of privileged information and ideas obtained during peer review and must not use them for personal or professional advantage.

Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts when conflicts of interest arise from competitive, collaborative, financial, personal, or institutional relationships with the authors or organizations associated with the research.

3.7. Review Process

Every manuscript submitted to AS-SHUFFAH: Islam and Digital Humanities Review undergoes an initial editorial assessment to determine its suitability for the journal. Manuscripts that proceed to external evaluation are independently reviewed by at least two reviewers through a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another.

Editorial decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection are based on reviewers' assessments and the editor's independent judgment. When necessary, the editor may consult an additional reviewer before making a final decision.

4. Duties of Authors

4.1. Reporting Standards

Authors of original research must present an accurate, transparent, and objective account of their research methods, findings, and significance. Data and results must be reported accurately, and manuscripts should contain sufficient methodological detail and references to support scholarly evaluation and, where applicable, replication.

Fabricated, falsified, misleading, or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute serious forms of research misconduct and are unacceptable.

4.2. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their submissions constitute original scholarly work. Any use of ideas, words, data, images, or other materials produced by others must be appropriately acknowledged and cited.

Plagiarism, including unattributed copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, and presenting another person's work as one's own, is unacceptable.

4.3. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Manuscripts must not reproduce substantially the same research as previously published work without appropriate disclosure and justification.

Redundant publication and practices that improperly duplicate the scholarly record are considered unethical publishing behavior.

4.4. Acknowledgment of Sources

Authors must properly acknowledge the contributions of other researchers and cite publications that have significantly influenced their research. All sources, data, quotations, and borrowed ideas must be documented in accordance with the journal's citation requirements.

4.5. Authorship of the Paper

Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the research.

All individuals who meet the authorship criteria should be listed as co-authors, while those who have contributed in other meaningful ways should be appropriately acknowledged. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible co-authors are included, no inappropriate authorship is claimed, and all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission.

4.6. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their research or its interpretation.

All sources of financial support, including research grants and institutional funding, must be acknowledged in the manuscript. Complete and accurate disclosures are essential to maintaining transparency and research credibility.

4.7. Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate in correcting the scholarly record.
